Lavender Fest!

The scent of fresh lavender is in the air! The Chappell Hill Lavender Farm will host the fifth annual Lavender Fest on Saturday, August 14 from 9 am-3 pm.

The festival kicks off the blooming season and guests will have the opportunity to cut their own fresh lavender and learn how to make lavender wands. The popular Tour de Lavender returns this year and includes stops at the Bluebonnet House Gift and Garden Center, offering unique gifts for everyone on your list, and the Windy Winery, which uses only Texas grapes to make great Texas wine.

Visitors can begin their tour at the Chappell Hill Lavender Farm where they will enjoy its beautiful lavender-covered hillsides. Chappell Hill Summer Cowboy EventOn July 3rd, Chappell Hill’s annual parade will be held, often declared “the best small town parade in America.” It features a smorgasbord of floats, cowboys, antique cars and the renowned Marching Kazoo Band, with festivities beginning at 10am. The Summer Cowboy event celebrating the “Life and legend of V.T. ‘Cowboy’ Williams, Jr.” begins after the parade, and features the Rocking T Chuck Wagon, pony rides and western demonstrations, all at the Chappell Hill Museum. Admission and activities are free.  
 
HEB presents Fireworks-on-the-Brazos: Butch IrelandOn July 4th, celebrate our nation’s independence where Texas declared her independence — at Washington-on-the-Brazos State Historic Site, open from 10am-10pm. Visitors can tour Barrington Living History Farm, Star of the Republic Museum, Independence Hall (regular admission fees apply) and the world-class Visitor’s Center. Activities include arts and crafts, 1800s children’s games, music by Tena Rae Helm and band, and free Blue Bell ice cream treats and Coca-Cola drinks. Bring along a picnic lunch or enjoy a variety of vendor-prepared foods and beverages. When it gets dark (at approx. 9:15pm), enjoy Fireworks-on-the-Brazos presented by H-E-B. Old GloryThe town of Burton will also be celebrating in a big way on July 4. At the Burton Community Center you will find delicious barbecue, an auction, bingo, cake walks and raffle drawings beginning at 11am. Sponsored by American Legion Post 242 and Auxiliary.

 
Activities in the town of Independence begin in the afternoon with a parade at 5pm, followed by a street dance, food and fun booths and, of course, fireworks!
 
Festival Hill at Round Top offers several patriotic music programs at 3:30pm and 8pm on July 3 and at 3:30pm on July 4. Enjoy the Annual Round Top Parade and Celebration – activities start at 10am on the Town Square, parade at 10:30 with special guest Gov. Rick Perry, Grand Parade Marshall this year, followed by Bar-B-Q, cold refreshments and music at The Round Top Rifle Association Hall.

Washington-on the-Brazos State Historic Park

Throughout the park, artisans will be demonstrating the various textile skills early Texans used for survival to make clothing and bedding and for decoration to make their house a “home”. In order to develop a better appreciation of these skills, visitors can observe as well as learn these skills through hands-on activities.

In conjunction with the demonstrations (quilting, spinning, weaving, rug hooking, and fancywork), the Brenham Friendship Quilters Guild will be hosting a Quilt Show in the Conference Center, artisans will be demonstrating in the Education Center, The Star of the Republic Museum will have displays and information on the extensive selection of textiles located throughout the museum, Barrington Living History Farm will be interpreting 1850s textile skills, and the Visitor Center will have various displays plus retail items for sale.
